arriving in africa

We have arrived in Kalene Hospital which is in the North West corner of Zambia. We had a long trip in local buses which took about 3 days altogether! The roads are really bad with lots of big potholes.
Our house is really big and nice. It is right beside the runway for the little planes that come to take people in and out. The plane is only a 6-seater and everything has to be weighed - people and luggage.
Dad is busy at the hospital and I have been helping mum feed some little premature babies. They have to have milk through a tube in their nose. There are 2 sets of twins, girls and boys and 2 little girls. They are so cute but so tiny. There is only one incubator so 3 babies are in it and the others are in little cots with lots of blankets and hot water bottles. I will send you a picture of me feeding them.
School is going well with Kelly, we just do school in the mornings. There is a pool at one of the houses so we can swim in the afternoons. It is really warm, a bit windy in the mornings.
Near where we live there are pineapple fields and we have pawpaw trees in the garden as well as strawberries and rhubarb. There are no shops, just a little market nearby but people come to the house selling vegetables like cabbage and onions. We buy bananas in huge bunches off the trees.Well done Ashleigh love from Emily

Wow Emily this sounds amazing. It is amazing that you have the opportunity to work with these little babies, maybe you can help me next term with my baby. Have you met any of the local children yet? and how are you coping with the change of culture
